(Juniperus communis)
A native conifer that grows to 8ft (2.4m) if not kept trimmed. It will grow in most types of soil but prefers a rich moist soil in a sunny position. Take softwood cuttings in June. Plant male and female plants together to ensure berries.
Harvesting
Collect the berries when they are ripe.
Uses
Traditionally used to flavour strong game and pork dishes.
