Suckers are shoots that arise from below ground, usually from the roots. Many shrubs and other plants, such as grasses, produce these suckers. Probably the best known for producing these suckers are roses, raspberries and the much hated couch grass.
These suckers can be dug up, separated from the parent plant when it is in its dormant season, usually November - March, and replanted as bare rooted plants. Ensure that they are kept well watered during the following season and keep well mulched to conserve moisture.
